Our Doctoral School aims to give the opportunity for foreign doctoral students to deepentheir knowledge in legal research methodology and to gain more experience in the theoreticalbackground and the practical issues of their special professional interests. The best experts ofour faculty deliver the lectures and provide the advisory work. The current scientific workbuilds upon the rich tradition left for us by the famous professors of the faculty. On this basis, we intend to achieve high academic standards and we aim to nurture and broaden ourinternational professional and personal relationships with other universities and researchinstitutes in the world. As part of the tradition we have permanent relationships – amongstothers – with the famous universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, München, Münster, Giessen, Potsdam, Jena, Ulm, and Tübingen. In the latest few years this scope has broadened, thanks tothe different programs of the European Union. We have active partnerships with many universities located in Europe, such as the universities of Nanterre, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Aixen Provence, Louvain, Barcelona, Thessaloniki and Verona.
Description of the PhD Training for foreign students
Foreign students may enrol for the Doctoral School of the Faculty with a Master’s degree inany social sciences. There are three possible ways of enrolment in the Doctoral School:
1. Full-time PhD studies in Szeged for 8 semesters
2. Correspondence PhD studies in Szeged for 8 semesters
3. Individual Training Programme
The full-time doctoral studies with regular courses held by excellent professors andpractitioners last for 8 semesters. Full-time PhD students shall acquire 240 CTS.The Doctoral School provides foreign language lectures regularly often in blocks.Duringthe 8 semesters the PhD dissertation shall also be elaborated. The PhD degree isawarded to a candidate who, having critically investigated and evaluated an approved topic,resulting in an independent and original contribution to the chosen field, has presented their thesis. The dissertation is to be defended in the framework of the public PhD procedure, where the dissertation is judged by the advisory opinions of two scholars from a Hungarianlaw faculty outside Szeged.

Registration fee: 100 euros
Foreign students, holding a Master’s degree in any social sciences, who do not want to havesuch a long stay in Szeged, however still want to finish the dissertation with thepredominant leading of a supervisor from Szeged, shall choose the possibility of part-timePhD studies in Szeged. In this case the PhD student may keep contact with the supervisingprofessor via E-mail. However, one short visit in Szeged per semester is still necessary inorder to consult with the supervisor. However, the required scientific achievements shall becertified( see table of source of credits) .During the 8 semesters the PhD dissertation shall also be elaborated. The PhDdegree is awarded to a candidate who, having critically investigated and evaluated anapproved topic, resulting in an independent and original contribution to the chosen field, haspresented their thesis. The dissertation is to be defended in the framework of the public PhDprocedure, where the dissertation is judged by two academic scholars from aHungarian law faculty outside Szeged.

Individual Doctoral Training
Those graduate students who has significant scientific antecedents, who has been through som research in their PhD field can apply for the 5th semester of the programme (research-dissertation period). The candidate can keep their (potential) foreign supervisor, but shall choose another scholar as a co-supervisor from theFaculty of Law of Szeged.
This form of the programme is fee-paying.
