(Péter Mezei) Which university are you coming from and what did you study at home?
(Alexander Kellner) The answer is the same for both of us. We did the bachelor program on Business Law at the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Brunswick. We already had an intellectual property (IP) focus there. We decided to apply for a master programme with an IP focus, too. The LLM programme in Dresden was really interesting for us, as it was short: you only had to do two semesters, and one of them abroad. And now we spend our semester abroad here in Szeged.
(PM) Why did you choose Szeged?
(Louis) There were a couple of universities to choose from. I personally wanted to go to Eastern Europe. I like the copyright focus, and Szeged has it. Plus I wanted to go to a city where you can contact the local people.
(Alexander) to be honest, it was not possible for us to go to the other universities, as we did not have time to do a TOEFL test. We are also familiar with Prague, so we wanted to see a new place.
(PM) Louis, you mentioned that you like copyright law. What about you Alex?
(Alexander) I already studied competition law and trademark law, but not that much on patent law. I think copyright and trademark law are quite interesting.
(PM) What are you plans for the future after completing the Dresden LLM?
(Louis) We didn’t decide on that yet. I am still thinking about three options: to do a trainee program at the EU Intellectual Property Office, with which the Dresden Law School has a good cooperation. The second option would be a normal law company. The third possibility would be to go back to a bank and work there.
(Alexander) For me it is quite similar. I might apply to another university or I might do the German Staatsexam.
(PM) So you both plan to continue to deal with IP law?
(Louis) I neither want to lose the contact with IP law.
(PM) What kind of memories would you like to bring home from Szeged?
(Alexander) One thing is the language. Not necessarily the Hungarian language, as that is a hard one. But as we only had classes in German, we want to improve our English yet.
