Human security in a fragmented world and the age of emerging technologies

Deadline: 24th May 2026 at 23:59 CEST

Open to all Master’s and PhD students, as well as recent graduates (within one year), between the ages of 21-35 based in Europe

The Programme in short

The Regional Academy on the United Nations (RAUN) is a non-profit international education initiative that brings together UN organizations and outstanding Master’s and PhD students. As part of the seven-month-long extracurricular Programme, students get the opportunity to conduct hands-on research projects for organizations and to attend lectures and interactive workshops given by experts and practitioners. RAUN aims to provide participants with in-depth knowledge and resources about the UN and its functions, to raise their cultural awareness and openness, and to offer a forum for networking and academic exchange.

Structure of the Academy

The Academy follows a unique format combining lectures and interactive workshops with practical hands-on experience. The Programme consists of two sessions in person and several online sessions per academic year (from October 2026 to April 2027). All courses are given by high-ranking experts and practitioners who share their rich experience with participants in an informal setting.

Apart from participating in the sessions, participants work on research projects in close cooperation with UN organizations and other international organizations on topics related to the RAUN theme. Through their group work, participants can develop their research skills and form strong networks with like-minded peers, academics, and experts from various fields in an environment that fosters diversity, cultural learning, and understanding.

During the Programme, participants get the opportunity to visit UN institutions in Vienna. The results of the research projects will be presented during the final RAUN session at the UN Headquarters in Vienna in April 2027. At the end of the Programme, participants receive certificates of successful completion of the Academy.
