The Department of Law at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania organized the “Law in Practice” student competition for the fourth time from May 5th to 7th, 2023.
Each participating law faculty could enter two teams, one for civil law and one for criminal law. A total of 18 teams, consisting of 54 law students, competed in the civil law and criminal law sections.
In the first stage of the competition, the teams had to develop written solutions for the given case studies. During the case-solving process, the contestants were allowed to use only the Hungarian Civil Code and the Criminal Code. Hungarian participants had to base their solutions on Hungarian legislation, while the host institution’s students relied on Romanian law. The teams had three hours to prepare their written solutions and then had to defend their solutions orally before the section juries.
The juries evaluated the teams’ ability to identify legal issues, apply relevant legal provisions, use appropriate legal terminology, and demonstrate verbal expression and argumentation skills.
At the end of the full-day competition, the team from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged achieved first place in the civil law section.
The team members were Bendegúz Csányi, Nathan Farkas, and Zsuzsanna Melis, all fourth-year students. Their mentor was Dr. Gergely Telegdy, senior lecturer.
In the criminal law section, our faculty’s team, consisting of Zita Gyurik, Benedek Varga, and Zsófia Zádori, achieved fourth place, their mentor was Dr. Andor Gál, assistant professor.
After the competition, the participating students had the opportunity for informal discussions and to share their experiences.
Congratulations to all the participants!
