Our Faculty Student Luka Khvareshia participated in the Global Administrative Law in Practice summer school organized by the European Public Law Organization

This summer, English Master in International Relations student Luka Khvareshia, participated in the summer course “Global Administrative Law in Practice” organized by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), with the help of scholarship support provided by the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, International and Regional Studies Institute.

Each year, the Summer School focuses on different topical issues, and this year’s program centered on the energy, environmental, and military crises of the European Union. Over five intensive days, the course covered topics such as the European Union and its system, economic foundations of the EU, the European Green Deal and its challenges, the challenge of a common European defense and the EU’s response to military crisis, and finally sustainable development in the EU.

One of the most interesting elements of the course was the study trip to the Energy Regulatory Authority, where the presenters explained Greece's plan to achieve a green transition in the energy sector by 2030 and 2050. It was especially interesting and insightful to understand how wind turbines will substitute other types of energy and how all Greek territories will be connected to one electrical network after finishing this project. Another study trip included a visit to the Hellenic Parliament, which offered the opportunity to explore its history and attend a parliamentary session.

The program took place in Athens and Sounion, two very iconic locations. This provided an important opportunity for students to learn about the historic surroundings and network with fellow participants from across Europe and even the USA.

The course concluded with a lecture by Professor Edoardo Chiti on the European Green Deal, covering its rationale, structure, dynamics, and implications. Students then discussed the global complex of climate change and its effect on the EU’s legal order.

Outside of academic activities, students visited many historical sites in Athens and, most importantly, enjoyed different types of food from Greek cuisine.

Overall, the program successfully provided a perfect mix of academic learning, cultural awareness, and professional networking.
