Organizational Structure of the Faculty

Roles and Responsibilities

At the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, we strive to provide a supportive and efficient environment for all our students.

Here’s a brief overview of the key roles within our Faculty:

DEAN:

The Dean is the highest-ranking official in the Faculty and is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction. The Dean represents the University and the Faculty within delegated authority, prepares Faculty Council meetings, oversees human resources, education, and research activities, manages administrative functions, exercises financial commitment authority, and fulfills other duties as stipulated by university regulations and instructions. The Dean works closely with department and institute heads, faculty members, and administrative staff to ensure the academic and administrative success of the Faculty.

VICE DEANS:

Vice Deans play critical roles in supporting the Dean and overseeing specific areas within the Faculty:

  • Vice Dean for Academic and General Affairs:

Responsible for managing faculty development, and general administrative affairs within the Faculty, he/she works to ensure the smooth operation of academic activities and support faculty members in their teaching and research endeavors. In addition, in his/her absence, the Dean appoints him/her for a specified period to carry out delegated duties with subsequent reporting obligations to the Dean.

  • Vice Dean for Education:

Focused on enhancing the quality of education and student experience within the Faculty, he/she oversees curriculum development, student support services, and initiatives to promote excellence in teaching and learning. Students can seek academic help and support from the Vice Dean for Education, who handles student disputes and appeals.

DEAN’S REPRESENTATIVE FOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:

The Dean’s Representative for International Affairs serves as the primary point of contact for matters related to international collaboration, partnerships, and global initiatives within the Faculty. He/she works closely with academic departments, administrative staff, and external partners to promote internationalization efforts and facilitate cross-cultural exchanges.

FACULTY COUNCIL

The Faculty Council consists of the leaders of the Faculty, the Heads of Institutes and Departments, the representatives of lecturers and the administrative staff, as well as the representatives of the Student’s Union. The Council oversees the functioning of educational and research units within the Faculty, guides leaders within its jurisdiction, and sets operational guidelines for the Faculty. It makes decisions on its work plan, regulations, educational principles, curriculum development, faculty recruitment, budget allocation, student activities, and collaboration with university leadership on academic publications and information dissemination.

DEPARTMENT AND INSTITUTE HEADS:

Each academic unit (Department or Institute) within the Faculty is headed by a Department or Institute Head. They oversee educational activities, research initiatives, and administrative operations within their respective institute and department. They promote scientific research, coordinate publication efforts, encourage grant applications, and exercise commitment authority as stipulated by university regulations and instructions. Students can reach out to the relevant Head of Department/Institute for academic guidance and support.

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF:

The administrative staff members handle day-to-day operations, including student services, financial matters, facilities management, and event coordination. They are here to assist students with any administrative inquiries or concerns.

The administrative staff includes members of the Dean’s Office, the Finance Office, the Human Resources Office, the Student Office, as well as the Legal Research Center.

We are committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically and personally. Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need assistance or have any feedback.
