1. Fee of the PhD degree procedure
a) For EU citizens who participated in doctoral (PhD) training organized by the University of Szeged (including Hungarian citizens and including foreign citizens enjoying the same rights as Hungarian citizens under the law): the fee for the PhD degree procedure is HUF 165.000.
b) For EU citizens who do not take or have taken part in doctoral training organized by the University of Szeged: the fee for the PhD degree procedure is HUF 225.000.
c) For doctoral candidates outside the scope of points a) and b), who nevertheless participated in doctoral (PhD) training organized by the University of Szeged: the fee for the PhD degree procedure is 500 EUR.
For other categories of doctoral candidates (or if the procedure and defense is conducted in Hungarian) the fee differs from these amounts (see the relevant university and faculty rules).
The fee does not depend on the success of the procedure.
2. Exemption from paying the fee
In the case of PhD students receiving a state scholarship (e.g. Stipendium Hungaricum), if they submit their dissertation (fulfilling the submission conditions) to the preliminary debate before completing the training (that is, before obtaining the final certificate closing the doctoral training - "absolutorium") and his/her application is accepted by the Doctoral School, the general training costs also cover the fee of the PhD degree procedure.
3. Method of payment
The PhD degree procedure fee is levied by the Doctoral School in the Neptun system and should be paid through it. (In case of any help needed do not hesitate to contact the administrator of the Doctoral School).
4. Due date
The fee is due within 15 days from the date that the Council of the Doctoral School proposes to the Doctoral Council of Social Sciences to permit the dissertation to be submitted for public defense. The Doctoral School will set the date and time of the public defense only after the fee has been paid.
The candidate can apply for an invoice about the fee at the Student Administration Office.
