Four rules of utmost importance

1.) The conditions of the complex exam must be met by the end of the fourth active semester, and the complex exam must be taken at the end of the fourth active semester. (You cannot register for the fifth semester without a comprehensive exam). Otherwise, the legal relationship of the doctoral student is terminated by law.

2.) The requirements for the "absolutorium" (final certificate closing the doctoral training) must be fulfilled by the end of the eighth active semester. (It is not possible to register for the ninth active semester). Otherwise, the doctoral student's legal relationship will be terminated without obtaining an absolutorium.

3.) At the end of each active semester, a credit report must be submitted on the academic performance to be recognized in the semester. The credit report must be submitted by completing the relevant MODULO form. In the absence of such a report, the student cannot obtain research (or teaching) credit in the semester.

4.) The dissertation must be submitted within three academic years from the date of the successful complex exam. Submission of the dissertation means the submission of the final version of the dissertation prepared after the preliminary debate.

However, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, those who passed the complex exam between February 1, 2018 and May 10, 2021 may submit their doctoral dissertation within four academic years after the complex exam under Hungarian legal rules.

(The Council of the Doctoral School may grant an additional one-year extension in both cases based on extraordinary and individual reasons).
