Dr. Tamás Antal Vice-Dean for Academic and General Affairs represented our Faculty at the opening ceremony of the Gateway Program on the 15th of September 2025, during which he welcomed 21 students at Szeged. The students have arrived from two prestigious University this semester which have been long-term partners of the University of Szeged; the Shanghai International Studies University and the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law.

Prof. Dr. Krisztina Karsai, head of the Gateway Programme also welcomed the students. In her speech she talked about the Gateway Programme and how it was first funded fourteen years ago providing opportunities for Chinese students to study abroad ever since. She highlighted that the Gateway Programme can give unforgettable memories therefore she encouraged the students to get to know Europe, Hungary, be open-minded to our habits and every day lives as well besides studying.

Dr. Tao Qian the new director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Szeged has also honoured the opening ceremony with her presence. She mentioned that she sympathizes with the students since she herself has also just arrived to Szeged, Hungary in the beginning of September. However, she noted how the University and our town was still quite familiar to her since her old students whom also participated in the Gateway Programme before, have told her about their positive experiences and kind and helpful professors when she was the vice dean of the Shanghai International Studies University. At the end of her speech she wished the Chinese students of this semester’s Gateway Programme a happy and fruitful time in Szeged.

Many of the professors have also attended the opening ceremony introducing their courses and welcoming the students at our Faculty.
