The Faculty of Law and Political Sciences will host its annual „Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights in Szeged” (WIPS) in collaboration with the CICL community. As a part of that and following 2017, the series of „Conference on Information and Communications Law” (CICL) will return to Szeged on May 21-22, 2026.
We hereby provide speakers and people interested in attending the event useful information on travelling, accommodation and visa issues, as well as on the program and the sponsors of the conference.
Travelling to Szeged
International travellers who land at the Budapest airport might travel to Szeged by train or by private shuttle.
For the train ride, you shall leave the airport by Bus 200E and get off at the bus station “Ferihegy vasútállomás” (Ferihegy train station). Here you shall cross the pedestrian bridge, and leave the bridge at the end (the second stairs), arriving at platform 2. From there, trains run to Szeged every hour :12 (e.g. at 9:12am or 5:12pm etc.). You can buy your train tickets in advance at https://jegy.mav.hu/ or from ticket vending machines at platform 2. Buying the ticket in advance is highly recommended as the conductors cannot sell you tickets without also “fining” (and indeed the “fine” is quite a lot, cca 60-65€, whereas a full price ticket is cca 10€ each way.
For a private shuttle, you might visit https://zoldtranszfer.hu/. Please note that they have various options (from a purely private driver to shared buses). They are secure and the drivers typically speak English, too. For a reservation, you would need to provide your arrival time and your Szeged address.
Those who arrive to Budapest by train, typically arrive to “Nyugati pályaudvar” (Western train stations). Luckily, the trains to Szeged depart from here, too.
Accommodations in Szeged
There are numerous excellent hotels in Szeged from small or medium sized ones to big ones. Bigger hotels are "Forrás", "Art", "Novotel"; medium-sized are "Science", "Piano", "Mozart", "Auris", "Dóm" or "Szent János". There are also lots of airbnb venues or you might look for accommodation via Booking.com, if you prefer that.
Please note that during WIPS/CICL, Szeged will host its annual wine festival, meaning that you shall be quick with securing your room in the city.
Visa requirements
Hungary is a part of the Schengen Area, hence if you come from the European Union, you need not go through any passport control. The same holds true if you land at another airport in the EU before flying to Budapest. Hungary nonetheless still requires some nationals to acquire a visa before entering the country. Please check with the Hungarian embassy in your country whether you need to get a visa. If so, and you need a letter of invitation, contact the organisers!
Program
The program of the event will be published soon.
Sponsors of the event
The sponsors of the event are the “Nemzeti Média és Hírközlési Hatóság” (National Media and Infocommunications Authority) and the “Szellemi Tulajdon Nemzeti Hivatala” (Hungarian Intellectual Property Office). The organisers are extremely grateful for the sponsors’ support!
